Extraordinary moments

Nobel Laureate

Donna Strickland, a McMaster alumna who received her Bachelor of Engineering degree in engineering physics in 1981, was awarded the Nobel Prize in physics in 2018.

The researcher received the award for her method of generating high-intensity, ultra-short optical pulses. Strickland is one of five women to receive the prize.
